Und natürlich entwickelt sich das Kunstverständnis aus dieser Reflexion immer weiter, das gehört ja schon zum Kunstbegriff, würde ich sagen. Mein künstlerisches Interesse ist erfahrungs- und entwicklungsorientiert, emanzipatorisch und aktivierend. Ich möchte in einer Kultur leben, wo die Rollenverteilungen von Arm und Reich, zwischen produzieren und konsumieren nicht mehr so abgegrenzt voneinander sind. Künstlerisches Schaffen ist für mich eine Möglichkeit, dazu beizutragen. Es bietet einen Handlungsraum, gesellschaftliche Änderungen spielerisch vorzudenken und auszuprobieren.The engagement and support from the Network has been vitally important to our growth and sustainability, and also our learning and understanding of the wider Berlin art scene beyond our micro-communities. For one thing, we have learned so much about the plurality of spaces and creative discourses in Berlin. But the open discussion that the Network allows with the Berlin Senate and one another has been really important in order to understand our needs as unique nodes in the artistic landscape of Berlin, and creative mutual goals for the sustainability and vitality of the community as a whole.To run a space is a form of appreciation of other artists, it is an outcome of friendship and mutual understanding; it is an indication of trust between all involved. To run a space means to take responsibility. To run a space is not only self-organization – money may not be vital to put up a show – but it is for sure necessary to animate a space and keep it alive. The prize comes due to hard and merited work, but maybe a grant would be more befitting than a prize? Maybe an iron scaffold holding up a structure in advance is better suited than a gold star for accomplishments? To run a space is a full time job. A group of artists who share their enthusiasm, interests, time, and skills would impart a project with a larger circulation of assignments between the makers. I am convinced that the longevity and success of a space relies on a horizontally organized (net) work.
