There is probably no ideal project space, and that is exactly what is ideal about this format; the openness and the freedom that allows it to take any shape and direction. Project spaces are versatile structures that can be morphed in many different ways, reflecting the circumstances and the people that are part of the process. To us, a project space is a kind of utopia, although there is no fixed concept of an ideal project space. Project spaces are very much constantly evolving, changing, and adapting.Every hour one puts into the project will be missed in your own practice. Project spaces are significant to counter the institutions and their market-oriented curated productions. They still have the capacity to foster artistic practices and communities, but also to be resistant to general tendencies and trends. Perhaps project spaces are now what once were the underground and the avant-garde.Nun, spätestens seit Beuys wissen wir von der Kunst als „sozialer Plastik“ − Kunst sollte in alle Bereiche unseres Lebens einfließen, um das Leben kreativer, sozialer und besser zu machen. Doch durch die extreme Kommerzialisierung des Kunstmarktes, der den Markt möglichst klein und exklusiv halten will, um so für einige wenige Künstler*innen extrem hohe Preise zu erzielen, wird die Kunstszene auf wenige Akteur*innen beschränkt: ein paar sehr große internationale kommerzielle Galerien, Auktionshäuser, Museen, große Sammler*innen oder auch Wertanlagen für Fonds und Unternehmen usw. Um die Kunst jedoch in unser aller Leben zu integrieren, muss dieser in sich geschlossene exklusive High-Art-Market aufgebrochen werden. Die Kunstszene muss sowohl für ein breites Publikum als auch für eine Vielzahl von unterschiedlichen Künstler*innen zugänglich sein. Diese Aufgabe können Projekträume am besten leisten, weil sie die Vielfalt und Diversität der zeitgenössischen Kunstszene am besten widerspiegeln.
