Art should first and foremost raise questions that are important for present and future societies. In the last decade, art has moved closer to science, technology, and society. It has become less commercialized and more diverse. We would like art to become not only illustrative and speculative, but also functional, embedding even more science and technologies within itself. This would encourage the audience to be even closer to art, perhaps more critical, diverse, tolerant, and creative.Art has the unique ability to help us expand our imagination and the way we think about the world. By bending the lines of logic and rational approaches, it offers a gateway to our collective unconscious and provides a terrain where everything is possible, hence pushing our thinking process forward. We see art and artists as seismographs for changes in society. There is also great freedom in art, addressing big and timeless questions that are independent of current economic and political realities and interests. Art can be a space for utopias, or for histories outside of history books. Art is important because it keeps us going through the difficult and dark times. Art keeps us alive.Wir wünschen uns von der Politik, dass sie sich für leistbare Mieten und die Absicherung von freien Projekträumen über temporäre Zuschüsse hinaus einsetzt. Die zweijährige Basisförderung für Projekträume und -initiativen ist ein wichtiger Schritt in diese Richtung und wir hoffen, dass sich dieser politische Trend − weg von einer „Einzelfallfinanzierung“ hin zu Strukturförderung − fortsetzt und verstetigt.
