It always feels quite special when an institution catches the zeitgeist of a moment. Project spaces have a lot more freedom in this sense, and they can truly, sincerely, reflect a moment or a movement as it is happening. They are essential to a critically active arts scene. Perhaps the orientation of project spaces has been forced to shift towards something more self-sustainable – but that might not be a bad thing.Verwertungslogik und Karrieredenken unter den „alternativen“ Projekten haben zugenommen, neue Strategien nähern sich eher dem Markt an, statt eine alternative Arbeitsweise zu verkörpern/zu leben, damit stirbt ein großes Stück der „alten“ Einstellungen und Haltungen und auch ein großes Stück des experimentellen Berlins. Running a project space with all its paperwork baggage is taking a toll on creative output: it slows us down. However, we cannot get away from this bureaucratic burden since we lack the financial resources for professional assistance in these matters.
