It always feels quite special when an institution catches the zeitgeist of a moment. Project spaces have a lot more freedom in this sense, and they can truly, sincerely, reflect a moment or a movement as it is happening. They are essential to a critically active arts scene. Perhaps the orientation of project spaces has been forced to shift towards something more self-sustainable – but that might not be a bad thing.Von der Kulturpolitik wünschen wir uns eine Bestätigung der Leistungen der Projektraummacher*innen durch Vernachhaltigung der Fördermöglichkeiten, gemeinsames Entwickeln neuer Tools zur Förderung und offenen Dialog auf Augenhöhe. Wir alle sind an einer lebendigen Kulturszene in Berlin interessiert; sie erzeugt Synergien und Sogwirkung. Wir alle können dazu beitragen, dass sich Lebensrealitäten von Künstler*innen und Projektmacher*innen verbessern, jede*r mit den eigenen Mitteln.Art has the unique ability to help us expand our imagination and the way we think about the world. By bending the lines of logic and rational approaches, it offers a gateway to our collective unconscious and provides a terrain where everything is possible, hence pushing our thinking process forward. We see art and artists as seismographs for changes in society. There is also great freedom in art, addressing big and timeless questions that are independent of current economic and political realities and interests. Art can be a space for utopias, or for histories outside of history books. Art is important because it keeps us going through the difficult and dark times. Art keeps us alive.
