Durch die vermehrten Fördermöglichkeiten kann ich als Projektraumbetreiberin weiterhin komplett unabhängig von einer Marktorientierung agieren. Diese Entwicklung ist sehr positiv. Denn gerade in der Randlage Marzahn-Hellersdorf kann es keine marktorientierten Überlegungen für die Ausrichtung eines Programms geben. Es gibt kein touristisches Publikum. Das Publikum generiert sich aus den Menschen vor Ort. Für Marzahn-Hellersdorf bedeutet dies, dass sich die Menschen oft in prekären finanziellen Situationen befinden, eine marktorientierte Ausrichtung passt nicht in diesen Kontext.
Die Themen Stadtmitte − Peripherie, öffentlicher Raum und/oder Rechtspopulismus können nicht marktorientiert verhandelt werden.There is probably no ideal project space, and that is exactly what is ideal about this format; the openness and the freedom that allows it to take any shape and direction. Project spaces are versatile structures that can be morphed in many different ways, reflecting the circumstances and the people that are part of the process. To us, a project space is a kind of utopia, although there is no fixed concept of an ideal project space. Project spaces are very much constantly evolving, changing, and adapting.Even though COVEN doesn’t have our own project space (although we are thinking about getting a studio …), we make space, mainly for our queer community in Berlin and online. We make space to come together, meet each other, talk about stuff, and laugh. We try to pay as many queers as we can to make art with us. To think about art, to question art. Art for us has always been about creating community and offer alternatives to worn-out narratives. We like art for its world-making capacity.
