… But definitely key words such as “project space”, “artist-run”, “grassroots”, “laboratory”, etc. are still good key words (to be constantly re-discussed) that underline the spirit and intention of such open experiments that somehow can only function as open experiments! A free interactive and inclusive format to create, express, and exchange interdisciplinary ideas with spontaneous, playful, DIY approaches; having access to and exchanging various physical spaces to manifest all facets of what independent cultural production can unfold – also in the sense of creating social awareness and responsibility due to the fact that every single participant, no matter the “role” or “title” is deeply aware & involved in the process of making things happen, sharing responsibilities and profits (if there are any 🙂 … Investors and businesses assumed the form of faceless international partnerships with enormous capital and devouring public resources deciding on the future of all citizens, delivering less and less social protection and consideration for cultural and social diversity.To run a space is a form of appreciation of other artists, it is an outcome of friendship and mutual understanding; it is an indication of trust between all involved. To run a space means to take responsibility. To run a space is not only self-organization – money may not be vital to put up a show – but it is for sure necessary to animate a space and keep it alive. The prize comes due to hard and merited work, but maybe a grant would be more befitting than a prize? Maybe an iron scaffold holding up a structure in advance is better suited than a gold star for accomplishments? To run a space is a full time job. A group of artists who share their enthusiasm, interests, time, and skills would impart a project with a larger circulation of assignments between the makers. I am convinced that the longevity and success of a space relies on a horizontally organized (net) work.Es gibt keinen Prototypen, von dem aus verbindliche Aussagen gemacht werden können. Das zeigen auch immer wieder die Selbstverständnisdebatten. Die Projekträume haben sich mit der Stadt und ihrer Gentrifizierung geändert, aber ebenso mit dem Kunstsystem und der Kunst bzw. der künstlerischen Praxis in der Stadt. Die Szene ist konstant im Fluss. Manche Projekträume haben sich institutionalisiert, andere lehnen das kontinuierlich ab und befinden sich eher außerhalb des Radars. Ich sehe darin eine Stärke und würde nicht von einem „idealen Projektraum zur jeweiligen Zeit“ sprechen. So unterschiedlich die Räume physisch sind, so unterschiedlich ist teilweise die Art, wie sie gemacht werden, und an wen sie sich wenden.
