The engagement and support from the Network has been vitally important to our growth and sustainability, and also our learning and understanding of the wider Berlin art scene beyond our micro-communities. For one thing, we have learned so much about the plurality of spaces and creative discourses in Berlin. But the open discussion that the Network allows with the Berlin Senate and one another has been really important in order to understand our needs as unique nodes in the artistic landscape of Berlin, and creative mutual goals for the sustainability and vitality of the community as a whole.Nun, spätestens seit Beuys wissen wir von der Kunst als „sozialer Plastik“ − Kunst sollte in alle Bereiche unseres Lebens einfließen, um das Leben kreativer, sozialer und besser zu machen. Doch durch die extreme Kommerzialisierung des Kunstmarktes, der den Markt möglichst klein und exklusiv halten will, um so für einige wenige Künstler*innen extrem hohe Preise zu erzielen, wird die Kunstszene auf wenige Akteur*innen beschränkt: ein paar sehr große internationale kommerzielle Galerien, Auktionshäuser, Museen, große Sammler*innen oder auch Wertanlagen für Fonds und Unternehmen usw. Um die Kunst jedoch in unser aller Leben zu integrieren, muss dieser in sich geschlossene exklusive High-Art-Market aufgebrochen werden. Die Kunstszene muss sowohl für ein breites Publikum als auch für eine Vielzahl von unterschiedlichen Künstler*innen zugänglich sein. Diese Aufgabe können Projekträume am besten leisten, weil sie die Vielfalt und Diversität der zeitgenössischen Kunstszene am besten widerspiegeln.The Network is a fundamental organization in the artistic landscape of Berlin. Without the Network, many of the support structures that have been built in recent years simply would not exist. Unionizing has always been problematic in a sector like the art sphere where the construction of the worker has been historically based on the idea of the author, and therefore the ego. In order to achieve change, cooperative models like the Network are a must. The challenge is how to create belonging from difference.
